The furthest north of the three-beach stretch, Oxnard State Beach, also known as Oxanrd Shores, offers more single family homes than the other two beaches (Hollywood Beach and Silver Strand Beach). Homes for sale in Oxnard Shores typically have larger square footages, some of them boasting up to 7000 square feet. More of this community are full time residents, drawn to its expansive white sandy shores and easy-going lifestyle. Following a building moratorium that closed in 1992, the area saw some increased development with some newer, more luxury real estate landing on the scene, particularly on Mandalay Beach Road. Its west/northwest orientation provides not only great views of both Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands, but also epic sunsets. It offers some amenities of a state beach, including limited parking and restrooms, but does not offer any lifeguard supervision. It is an attractive area for buyers who are looking for the beach lifestyle with a wider array of properties available.
Designated as a state park in 1985, this beach is protected, due to its wildlife inhabitants and areas of undisturbed landscape, still maintaining some dunes and wetlands along its shores. It closes down March-September to protect the Western Snowy Plover, who nests on the beaches during this season. While this area maintains its natural preserve, it also offers hospitality and entertainment venues, with a resort located in the area, surrounded by 16,000 square feet of lush landscape. Residents and visitors can enjoy a day at Oxnard State Beach Park, with a jogging path, volleyball, barbeques, and a playground. This community has a little bit of everything to offer.
This beach has deep roots in the surfing world, and not only because it was the childhood home of one of the top world class surfers, Taylor Knox. Summers and winters are great times to catch a wave at Oxnard Beach, making this beach a great surfing destination. The southern swells of summer bring with them great waves, but the northwest swells in winter require a more skilled surfer to take them on, demanding a lot of paddling effort from their riders. An under water trench, located hundreds of feet away from the shore line, bumps up the sizes of the waves and gives them a little extra boost that the surfers enjoy. This deep water trench also creates great grounds for surf fishing, with the potential to catch a Halibut or Sand Dab, and others. Though this beach is not known as a “locals only” beach, like its two neighborhoods to the south, it provides a picturesque setting for homeowners, nature-gazers, beachgoers, and surfers alike.
